Yep. Or rather, it was close to one of those, "wait, what year is it, again?". Like, it can't be. It couldn't be 2016. Dread. Thinking, what am I doing with my life...Then I had to find my degree as it was perched on the very top shelf of my bookcase, sandwiched between some books. Whew! The blood finally returned to my face when I realized that it's *still* 2015. It almost felt like that cliche moment in the holiday movies when the protagonist realizes that there's still time to make good on their promises. I kind of feel like that now...it's weird, but oddly appropriate.
Meanwhile, I'm basing "progress" from whence I graduate from college and giving myself the 1 year mark, which'll officially terminate around September 2015. Given that I officially graduate in May, didn't pick up my degree until September, seems fair enough.
So lots has happened since I last updated this post.
1.) I've been involved in the beginning stages with a startup! How exciting. We're still thinking of what to do in terms of what our focus is going to be: fact-checking automation engine, providing data sets of terrorist attacks or something similar down the line....But so far, we're meeting up on a weekly basis at the CUNY School of Journalism in mid-town...I'm learning lots so far. But on the downside, I haven't had much time to practice my coding. The timing of this is so weird, because in my last post, I mentioned of something insanely crazy. Like, what would you do (career-wise) if you didn't have any financial worries, kinda-crazy thinking? Ok, so this might have something to do with the House of Cards (season 2 is quickly approaching! woo-hoo!), but it would be so rad to be the boss of my own company doing political consulting or something. I mean, there was this day, when I actually envisioned living in DC and what my life would be like, so epic....And now, this opportunity presents itself....it's like synchronicity or something....
Moving on......
2.) Ok, not sure if I'd mentioned this before, but I had joined Mindsumo.com. It's a community that "pays"college students and recent-grads with corporations who need creative answers to their problems. I received $65 just for signing up, but the rule stipulates that there's a $100 quota that has to be reached before you can cash out the first time....
Basically, I completed a challenge posed by the Marriott Hotel to Eliminate plastic bottles in hotel bathrooms and received an honorable mention of which there were only 5 people chosen and received $50 for my idea. I was absolutely elated. I was actually compensated for thinking....
It's going to be Lunar New Year starting on Feb 19th and I just received a gigantic red-envelope from my mentee's parents who also happens to be living as tenant's in my parent's house. It's almost an obscene amount of money. I mean, usually relatives may just give $5-$10. The most was $20 from my favorite aunt and uncle. I'm not supposed to peek, but I saw Benjamin Franklin staring back at me...I think that's what triggered that whole deja-vu episode I'd experienced earlier....
